The beauty of Spiti Valley is indefinable and anyone would simply fall in love with it. There are many trekking routes in Spiti Valley that you must visit once but Parang La Trek gives an out-of-world experience. This trek is difficult yet a wonderful place to visit with your buddies. 

Nestled in the Ladakh region, Parang La Trek is located at a height of 5600 meters. It is surrounded by huge mountains and vast meadows. You will view the different terrains on this journey. Tso-Moriri Lake is one of the most popular attractions on this route of Parang La Trek. It 

Many streams flow on the way to Parang La trek making your journey more beautiful. It offers a chance to spend some luxury time in its wilderness decorated with mind-blowing landscapes. The trek is of 9 days and is perfect for avid adventurers. One more special thing about this trek is its historical significance as an ancient route of trading between Spiti Valley and Ladakh.

The best time to visit Parang La Trek 

The best time to visit the Parang La trek is between June and mid-September. In the early days of June, you will see snow-capped mountains throwing their wonderful glimpse. 

Parang la trek in August

In August and September, you will view the beautiful green mountains with a fresh view of nature. It is one of the best times to enjoy the serene touch of nature with the backdrop of brown landscapes. 

The weather around the Parang La trek becomes cool at night and goes up to 30 degrees Celsius in the daytime during June. 

Do not visit this trek during monsoon as there are several roadblocks because of landslides. During the winter season, the temperature goes below zero degrees Celsius and most parts are covered by heavy snow.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Travel to Manali, Himachal

The first day is a relaxing time. So we will arrive at Manali to get ready for the adventurous journey to Parang La Trek. Book your tickets to Manali by train or flight before 10 days. On day 1, we will tour Manali by covering its local points of attraction. Apart from that, we will also learn tips to make this trek more amazing. 

Our mountaineering staff will explain to you the rules of trekking and how to make the journey easy. We will have our dinner and take a nice sleep in our rooms. Take good sleep to prepare your body and mind for a good adventure. 

Day 02: Drive from Manali to Kaza (185km, 11 hours)

  • Altitude: 12,500 ft 
  • Drive distance: 185 km
  • Water resources: You will get many water sources on the road. 

Wake up with a new dream in your mind to move ahead to your destination. After breakfast, we will begin driving from Manali to reach Kaza. It is a notable route including many water streams and places of attraction. You will truly enjoy every bit of your journey by driving on this special route from Manali to Kaza. 

The first attraction on this route is Rohtang Pass. This pass gives a heavenly feeling when you go through it. Covered by snow on both sides, the road will disclose the picture of the hidden nature of Kaza slowly. Snow-capped peaks can be seen from Rohtang Pass. As we will move ahead, the road will take us to Kunzum Mata Mandir. Take blessings of Goddess Kunzum Mata and start your journey again. 

Spiti River will be visible while traveling on this route. We will also see Key Monastery and finally arrive at Kaza. After reaching Kaza, we will have tea and relax for some time. Enjoy dinner and get good sleep at our campsite.

Day 03: Acclimatization at Kaza

  • Altitude: 12,500 ft. 

Today is an acclimatization day. It is important to spend a day at Kaza to get used to the local weather. You can take a stroll in the nearby areas of Kaza and click some amazing pictures for memories. Kaza has some surreal places to explore with your group. 

We will have dinner and sleep in our hotel room. Get ready for another day’s interesting journey.  

Day 04: Drive from Kaza to Kibber, trek from Kibber to Thaltak

  • Altitude: Kibber- 14,200 ft and Thaltek- 15,092 ft 
  • Drive distance: 19 km 
  • Trekking distance: 12 km 
  • Trail: Followed by Kibber 
  • Water resources: Carry a large bottle of water as it is a long journey 
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderate to difficult 

Day 4 is the most tiring day of the whole trail. You have to drive for about 20 km and then we have to walk for around 12 km. The day will demand a lot of protein bars and water to keep going on the road. As usual, we will start the drive to Kibber after breakfast. We will go through small villages and a deep valley on the right side. 

This route also has many fields where you can take some beautiful photos. Thick bushes and grassland cover vast acres of land on this road. The road from Kaza to Kibber is quite long and after reaching Kibber we will take a short break. We will start trekking from Kibber to reach Thaltek. The trek is around 12 km and will have to walk on different kinds of paths on this route. 

Thaltek is another notable place for avid trekkers. It has breathtaking beauty with nice landscapes and the Spiti River on one side. We advise wearing cool clothes as the temperature at a higher altitude will rise over time. Thaltek is a dreamy place offering stunning views of snow-clad mountain peaks. Our second break will be in Thaltek. The journey is still long so we will have our lunch to energize ourselves for the next trail. 

Day 05: Trek from Thaltek to Bongrojen BC

  • Altitude: 17000 ft 
  • Trekking distance: 6 km 
  • Trail: Followed by Thaltek 
  • Water resources: It is necessary to take enough water to fulfill your needs for the whole day
  • Trekking difficulty: Difficult 

Now, we will cover our second trail of the day which is the Bongrojen trail. It will be a strenuous trail from Thaltek to Bongrojen but your joy will know no bounds when you reach the place. Continuous ascents and descents are part of this trail. We will reach a footbridge that has to be crossed to reach Jagatha. It is not over yet as we have to walk around 2 km now to reach our campsite. 

After reaching the Bongrojen campsite, we will relax and enjoy our hot dinner. Feel the beauty of nature around you and lose yourself in the enchanting aura of the place. After a strenuous day, we will all take a relaxing and long sleep to get ready for the next adventure. 

Day 06: Trek from Bonrojen to Datang Yongma over Parang La

  • Altitude: 16207 feet 
  • Trekking distance: 10 km 
  • Trail: Followed by Parang La 
  • Water resources: Carry a large bottle of water to fulfill the needs of the full-day 
  • Trekking difficulty: Difficult 

After breakfast, we will start our trekking trail from Bongrojen. We have to trek to reach our final destination Parang La trek. This journey will allow you to feel the spiritual atmosphere of the place. We will hear the sweet prayers and view the colorful flags on our road to Parang La Trek. Yes, there will be steep climbs as well but the journey has its enjoyment. 

We have to climb via a zig-zag trail and moraines to reach our final destination. On the route, you will see Parilungi Peak and Changthan valleys with Spiti Valley. We have to go through a pass after which there is a descent. After walking on this descent, we will finally reach Parang La Glacier. The mesmerizing sound of gushing water under your feet will make fall in love with the place. After reaching Parang La Peak, you will feel as if you are standing at the top of the world. 

The glimpse of nature from this peak is simply outstanding. Feel the place and capture it with your camera to create the finest memories of this trek. We will start our trek to Datang Yongma which is our campsite for the day. Have your dinner and enjoy a night’s sleep at Datang Yongma campsite. 

Day 07: Trek from Datang Yongma to Kapapuche

  • Altitude: 16000 feet 
  • Trekking distance: 20 km 
  • Trail: Followed by Datang Yongma 
  • Water resources: You will get many streams to fill your water bottles 
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderate 

From Datang Yongma campsite, we will begin our trek after breakfast. We have to walk a long even today. We will be crossing many small streams on our way. Remove your shoes to get the best experience of the trek. We will take a break in between our treks to refill energy in our bodies. 

We will reach Kapapuche by evening. This is the campsite of our day. We have to descend to reach Kapapuche campsite. Be comfortable with the surroundings take dinner and sleep well with sweet memories of our trek. 

Day 08: Trek from Kapapuche to Norbu Sumdo

  • Trekking distance: 20 km 
  • Water resources: It is a long walk and you must carry enough water 
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderate to difficult 

From Kapapuche, we have to trek to Norbu Sumdo. Yes, it is again a long trek with several glaciers coming on your way to give an amazing trip experience. We will cross various glacier paths and rivers to reach our destination. A walk on a dry bed is one of the best things about this trek. 

We will reach Norbu Sumdo in 6 hours. This is our campsite for the day. Your overnight stay in a tent will be unforgettable as Norbu Sumdo is located at a higher altitude. A cool breeze at night will reduce your tiredness and make you feel relaxed once again. Amidst the wilderness of nature, take a good night’s sleep. 

Day 09: Trek from Norbu Sumdo to Kingdom

  • Altitude: 15052 feet 
  • Trekking distance: 14 km 
  • Trail: Followed by Norbu Sumdo 
  • Water resources: You will not get any water source on this route so take your water bottles 
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderate 

Today’s trek will take us to Kiangdom. It is blessed with meadows and flat land. We will start walking on the flat land by waving at the meadows for some hours. On your route, you will catch glimpses of Mentrok peaks and Tso Moriri Lake. It is a lake with crystal clear water. Do not put your camera in the bag as it must capture the glance of this beautiful point. 

We will reach Kiangdom by evening. After tea, we will enjoy a good time with our group. After dinner, we will take a night's sleep in our tent. 

Day 10: Trek from Kiangdom to Korzok roadhead

  • Altitude: 14852 ft 
  • Trekking distance: 12 km 
  • Trail: Followed by Kiangdom 
  • Water resources: Take a good amount of water
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderate 

Today, we will start trekking for Karzok. It is one of the most captivating places with surreal nature. The view that you will get from this point cannot be explained in simple words. Korzok is the gateway to Leh. We have to walk for around 8 hours on day 9 to reach our final destination. 

You will view the changing shades of Tso Moriri Lake on this trek. The full route is interesting with lots of nature’s hidden gems. By noon, we will reach Korzok. After lunch, we will rest for a while. Then we will explore the local places of attraction in the village. One of the best places is Korzok monastery. If you are visiting the trek anywhere between July and September, the Karzog Gustor festival will be on your list. 

We will have our dinner and take a night's sleep in our tents. 

Day 11: Onward to Leh

  • Drive distance: 8 hours, 213 km, 10 hours to Manali  

On day 10, we will conclude our trek. After breakfast, we will leave Karzog and drive to reach Leh. The road to Leh from Karzog is long and it takes around 8 hours to reach the final destination. Keep your cameras ready to catch the most awaited pictures of Ladakh’s nature. 

On your route to Leh, you will see many snow-clad mountains smiling at you happily. After reaching Leh, we will have lunch and relax for some time. From Leh, we will start driving to reach Manali. It is again a long journey of 10 hours. Catch some of the most beautiful photos of Leh in your camera on the last day of the trek. By night, we will reach Manali and depart to take our routes
