The Ut Kangri Expedition is less explored expedition in Ladakh Valley, Adventure seekers and mountaineers are always excited to visir unexplored places in the world. Climbing this peak is a true adventure that you must discover once in your life.
UT Kangri Peak is situated at a height of 6070 m in the Rumste Phu Range of the Zanskar Mountains. This peak is often visited by the locals and a few mountaineers every year. Relatively easy to climb, this peak expedition can be completed even by beginners or new mountaineers.
This peak was explored in 2019 by members of the Ladakh Mountain Guides Association. One of the most thrilling things about the UT Kangri expedition is taking the panoramic views of the region from the top point. It is a viewpoint of some of the huge mountain peaks such as Mt. Kang Yatse, Zara I, and Khyam I.
This expedition starts from Leh and ends at the same location. It is a surreal journey that includes walking on steep slopes amidst the chilly winters. You will witness the magical world of snow in this region during the expedition to Ut Kangri Peak.
You can visit this expedition between July and September to view the real beauty of this region. Another time to visit this peak expedition is from January to March. Ut Kangri Peak is covered with snow in most of the months of the year.
Our trek will start from Leh. On day 1, you have to arrive at Leh at your own cost. We will spend the whole day at Leh. Introduce yourself to the group of mountaineers, tour guides, and friends. We will be accommodated in the hotel room and place our luggage. In the afternoon, we will take a short walk to explore the market and local places of Leh.
Take some interesting pictures of Leh’s popular attractions and buy your favorite stuff from the local markets. We will return to the hotel rooms by late evening and enjoy dinner. Take proper rest to make your body ready for the next adventure.
Day 02: Active acclimatization
Day 2 is the acclimatization day for our trekkers. Some people might face mild symptoms of mountain sickness in Leh. To overcome these symptoms, we will spend one full day at Leh to get your body accustomed to the local weather conditions.
Active acclimatization is a mandatory day for every trekker to keep the body fit during the expedition. Visit the nearby places of Leh and enjoy its enchanting nature spots with your camera. Our trek leaders will explain to you about the further expedition and things to follow and avoid during the trek.
To keep the day active, visit the nearby market with your friends. Get back by the evening and enjoy dinner with your group. Take good sleep to relax your body after an active acclimatization day at Leh.
Get up early with the hope of discovering something new on day 3. After breakfast, we will start a drive from Leh to reach Rumtse Phu. Truly speaking, this route will leave a mesmerizing effect on your mind as you pass through the Leh-Manali highway. We have to drive around 86 km and trek 1 km to reach Rumtse Phu.
The road will take you through tiny Ladakhi hamlets to see the authentic culture of this place. Leh is truly a paradise that leaves you spellbound with its elegance. Rumste Phu is the last road before reaching the summit point. At this point, you will enjoy the views of Leh from a high altitude. The sight of barren valleys and Majestic Mountains will capture your mind as well as your soul.
Our campsite for the day is Rumste Phu. It is again an alluring place with a tranquil environment and huge peaks. The wilderness of this place will transport you to another world in no time. Take dinner and enjoy a good sleep under the starry sky. This is an unforgettable camping experience that you must enjoy once.
On day 4, we will start our trek after breakfast from Rumtse Phu campsite. Today, we have to trek to reach the base camp which is located at a distance of around 4900 meters from the campsite. We have to learn all the basic techniques of mountaineering and trekking.
Learn how to use a variety of mountaineering equipment during the expedition. Apart from that, we will also learn roping up techniques, knots, and jumaring. In the evening, we will take a short acclimatization walk to get used to the local weather. We will return to the campsite at night and get some sleep after dinner.
Day 5 is similar to day 4 which will start after breakfast. Today, you will walk at a higher altitude in the Himalayas with the help of mountaineering gear and equipment. We will traverse through icy patches of land with equipment. Apart from that, we will also revise techniques of mountaineering and practice walking on the ice to gain perfection.
On training day, we will go through glaciers and crevasses. Practice will help you to know how to walk on snowy land and areas with glaciers. It will help you how to trek in dangerous situations with your team. We will get back to the campsite by night and have dinner. Sleep well under the beautiful sky of this dreamy land.
Today, it is summit day which is the most important moment of our expedition. Start a trek with a fresh morning after breakfast. Our trek from the campsite to Mt. UT Kangri is full of snowy regions. We have to walk in deep snow with our mountaineering gear and equipment. Cold winds will touch your face as you approach your final destination.
We have to walk for several hours on the difficult road full of snow to reach Mt. UT Kangri. We will reach this peak by noon. After reaching this spot, it will completely mesmerize you with its surreal beauty. Feel the moment of victory at this peak and enjoy the magnificent views of the different mountain ranges of the region. We will capture the pictures in our camera with our group leaders, mountaineering staff, and trekkers.
After spending time at the summit point, we will start our return journey to Basecamp. By night, we will come back to base camp. It is a very tiring yet beautiful day which will be remembered for years. After dinner, we will take the night's sleep in our tents.
On day 7, we will start our trek from base camp after breakfast. From Basecamp to Rumste Phu, we have to walk on rough phases of the trekking route. It is again a difficult road from basecamp to Rumste Phu and you will enjoy it around the mighty mountains and beautiful glaciers.
We will reach Rumtse Phu by noon. After lunch, we will again start our journey from Rumtse Phu by driving. We have to drive around 86 km to reach Leh. Collect the beautiful clicks of the Leh region in your camera. Our stay for the night is at Leh. Enjoy the last day with your whole group of friends, trekking leader, and mountaineering staff.
After breakfast, we will begin a trip back home from Leh. We will all separate with the memories of the Ut Tangri Expedition with the hope of meeting again on such a wonderful trip.
We will reserve day 9 as a buffer day. If we can summit the peak due to bad weather conditions, On next day will atempt one more summit push to climb Mount Ut Kangri. If everything goes smooth so you plan leh sightseeing by youself.
