One can see this stunning spot from Manali’s left bank. Trekking through Shanag and Majhach village via thick pine trees and Deodar forests is one of the most breathtaking things that you must experience once in a lifetime. Located at a massive altitude of 3379 m, Mangankot has lots to offer to a trekker. 

From mixed forests to snowcapped mountains, this place is a perfect vacation spot as well as a trekking point. Climbing to a great height to watch the panoramic views of Kullu valley is something that you must do. It is not over yet but just a part of Mangankot that you heard about. This place also has vast acres of apple orchards that will hypnotize your mind. 

You will have to walk across huge carpets of colorful wildflowers on this trail. A large flock of Himalayan birds flying with open wings creates a superb picture of nature. At every stage of the Mangankot trekking trail, you will experience nature’s bounty. It is the epitome of nature, hiking, trekking, and adventure.

Snow trek to Shila camp

Day 01: Pick up from Manali and drive to Shanag trek to Shila campsite

  • Altitude: 2050 meters to 2800 metres. 
  • Drive distance: 7 kilometers.
  • Drive duration: 30 minutes. 
  • Trek distance: 3 kilometers. 
  •  Time taken for trek: 3 to 4 hours. 
  • Trekking difficulty: Easy

Today, our journey starts in Manali. We will all begin our trip by driving from Manali. We will drive for about 30 minutes to reach Shanag Village, we will start our trekking trek from here. 

We have to trek for about 3 to 4 hours to reach Mangankot base Camp. On the way, you will meet many snow-covered mountain peaks waving at you. Apart from that, you will also walk through pine trees and mixed forests. After reaching Mangankot Base camp, we will enjoy hot lunch. After hot lunch you will have to acclimatize to the local climate with short trek of beautiful waterfall. 

waterfalls will compel you to capture endless photos in your camera with your group. Acclimatization is necessary to enjoy this trail perfectly. After coming back to our camp site We will enjoy hot tea snacks and delicious dinner at this spot. Our night stay will be in Mangankot Base Camp in tents. We will enjoy a sweet sleep with all the golden memories of the first day. 

Trek to Mangankot top

Day 02: Shila camp (base camp) to Mangankot Top and Back to Base Camp

  • Altitude: 2800 meters to 3300 meters. 
  • Trek distance: 7 kilometers up and down. 
  • Time taken: 7 to 8 hours. 
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderat. 

Our second day has already started and we have to go a long way to today. We will climb from Mangankot base camp to Mangankot Top. Yes, the strong cold winds will hit our faces and body throughout the route but it will be a mind-blowing experience to feel. 

The slope is steep and we have to take care of every step while walking on this path. Snow and ice all around us will keep us shivering for a long day. White and dreamy land will encourage you to move on this path. It is surely a lovely experience for every one of us. 

After walking for about 5 to 6 hours, we will finally reach Mangan Kot. It is a beautiful place. This place attracts thousands of tourists and trekkers every year. Our tiring journey has finally given us something beautiful and that is the sight, we will spend some time here with Breathtaking scenes of Manali Valley. 

After some time we will start our return journey. The route will be the same that we took. After a delicious pack lunch, we will start a trail from Mangankot. Although the route is the same, the trail type is not alike. We have to descend on a long route to reach our destination. 

We will reach at our Shila camp aprox 4 to 5pm for hot tea and snacks and After dinner, we will enjoy some good moments with buddies talking about day 2. These memories will never return in your life. So, feel the beauty of this place and enjoy it as much as possible.Enjoy a sweet sleep in your tents. 

Winter base camp

Day 03: Shila camp (Mangankot Base camp) to Shanag and drive to Manali

  • Altitude: 2800 meters to 2050 meters. 
  • Drive distance: 7 kilometers
  • Drive duration: 30 minutes. 
  • Trek distance: 3 to 4 kilometers. 
  • Time taken: 2 hours. 
  • Trekking difficulty: easy. 

On day 3 we have to start trekking from Mangankot base camp to Manali. We will start trekking after breakfast. We will come across thick pine trees and mixed forests. Huge apple orchards will come on your route where you can click beautiful photos with your friends. 

The full route is so beautiful that your camera will be filled with nice photos. You will see a pattern of nature’s changing colors at every phase. We will reach Manali by noon. You can stay in Manali for a few days to enjoy the scenic beauty of the place. It is one of the best travel destinations in India that you must see once in a lifetime.

Things you must carry while going for Mangankot Trek 

The Mangankot trek is a winter trek with easy to moderate difficulty levels. While going on this trek, you must carry the following things such as:

  • 1 sun cap and 1 woolen cap to protect your head in cold winter
  • 1 trek pole for an easy tour 
  • 1 wind and waterproof jacket and 1 down jacket for extra protection 
  • 1 head torch with 3 to 4 pairs of batteries for a long trip 
  • Personal medicines according to the prescription of your family doctor 
  • 2 to 3 trek pants 
  • 1 full sleeve t-shirt and 1 fleece jacket with full sleeves 
  • 1 Balaclava and 1 neck warmer 
  • Fully charges the power bank to charge your mobile phones and tablets
