Winter is slowly approaching and it will reach its peak within a few days. As soon as the cold weather sets itself in the surroundings, we will wait for winter parties and adventurous trips. One of the best things that you can try this winter is going for Kuari Pass Winter Trek. It is defined as the “Only Trekkable Mountain Pass in winter” by every trekker. 

This trek has a lot of things to offer you from scenic views of Mt Nanda Devi to dense forests of oak. It is a perfect trek to start your winter mornings and get an amazing trekking experience. This trekking peak offers views of some majestic Himalayan peaks such as Rishi Pahad, Hathi Ghoda Parbat, Dronagiri, Neelkanth, and others. 

In recent years, the trek has become more popular as a winter spot among many trekkers. Kuari Pass winter trek offers mesmerizing views of small villages and oak jungles. At every point, you will see the magical colors of nature making this place more beautiful. 

Although it is an easy trekking trail, you may have to still face some challenging points. Picturesque landscapes and beautiful hamlets make your journey fun. You will simply get an amazing lifetime trekking experience by visiting Kuari pass winter trekking point.

Day 01: Drive from Rishikesh to Joshimath 

  • Trek distance: 300 km 
  • Time taken: 10 to 12 hours 
  • Altitude: 187 m/ 6,152 feet
  • Water resources: You must take enough water to avoid water issues on the route 
  • Trekking difficulty: Easy to moderate

You will all have to gather at Tapovan, Rishikesh. We have arranged a pick-up facility from Tapovan, Rishikesh. We will start the journey from Rishikesh at 5:45 am. The morning journey from Rishikesh to Joshimath in the winter season is just an unimaginable thing. You will not get tired of viewing the breathtaking views of Panchprayag and the holy river Ganga. 

We will pass through large Oak jungles and maple trees. Nature will keep changing at every point and you will enjoy the trip like anything. The road is full of ascents and descents but you will love it. We will take a short break for lunch and relax for some time to feel the beauty of nature. We will fill up our bottles and start our journey again. 

It is recommended to capture each moment of Joshimath's journey with your camera. We will reach Joshimath around 5 pm. Then we will move to a hotel and enjoy a hot cup of tea and a delicious dinner. We will spend the night at Joshimath. 

Gulling campsite in snow

Day 02: Drive from Joshimath to Tugashi village Drive 15 km, 40-50 minutes. Same day trek to Gulling campsite 5 km, 4/5 Hours

  • Trek distance: 5 km
  • Time taken: 4 to 5 hours 
  • Altitude: 9,832 feet
  • Water resources: you must carry enough water to spend for the full day 
  • Trekking difficulty: Easy 

Today is our second day and we will start our journey in the morning after breakfast. We have to drive from Joshimath to Tugashi village. The distance between joshimath to tugashi is 15 km. We recommend taking a thick jacket with you as it is a morning journey and you will feel the cold. 

Tugashi village is an amazing hamlet with a touch of tradition and culture. At every step of this village, the terrain will change and you will see a sprawling oak forest. Then you see meadows at every step in the oak forest. You can take enjoy nature photography with your group and take a rest for some time. 

We will start our trip again and head towards Gulling campsite. Now, we have to trek uphill to reach Gulling point. We will again cross huge forests on our way to Gulling campsite. We will continue to walk for about hours to reach our campsite. Views at the top of the campsite are just awesome. 

After reaching Gulling campsite, we will enjoy a hot lunch. We will rest for a few hours and explore the surroundings and take photos. After a delicious dinner, we will spend the night in tents.

Day 03: Trek from Gulling to Khullara camp 06 km, 4/5 Hour

  • Trek distance: 6 km
  • Time taken: 4 to 5 hours
  • Altitude: 11,072 feet
  • Water resources: There are not many facilities to fill your bottles. So, you must carry water. 
  • Trekking difficulty: Easy to moderate 

As usual, our journey will start in the morning from Gulling campsite after breakfast. Today, we have to trek a distance of 6 km to reach Khullara campsite. Although the journey is not far, it is still not an as easy trek as it seems. We have to constantly trek upwards on steep routes. These routes will make you feel tired but your excitement will never end. 

Vast patches of oak forests will take your breath away for a few minutes. You will witness the colorful beauty of nature. On your way, you will colorful rhododendron and conifer forests. Mini streams will arrive that will make your mind calm and tranquil. Do not forget to store these memories in your smartphones and cameras. 

On reaching Khullara campsite, we will have our lunch. After lunch, spend some time in the surroundings and take photos. We will have tea time with some gossip and enjoy a hot dinner. Our stay will be at Khullara campsite with all the sweet memories of the day. 

Trekking to summit

Day 04: Trek to Kuari Pass summit, altitude 12,500 feet, and back to Khullara camp. Trek 13km, 8/9 Hours (up & down)

  • Trekking distance: 13 km
  • Time taken: 8 to 9 hours 
  • Altitude – 12,500 feet
  • Water resources: It is advised to take enough water as it is going to be a long and tiring day 
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderate 

After breakfast, we will begin our trip to the Kuari Pass summit. This pass is full of steep roads that go up to a mountain ridge. We will traverse the snowy patches of land. These snowy roads will make you fall in love with this place again and again. Roads are full of ups and downs but the mighty mountains will not stop traveling with us throughout the journey. 

Mighty mountains around us will take you to the dream world. We all have to walk for about 4 hours to reach Kuari pass. From Kuari's point, the views are just fantastic. We will see the ranges of huge mountains such as Nanda Devi, Hathi Ghoda, Dronagiri, and Pangarchulla. We will spend some time on the Kuari pass and take photos of this amazing spot. 

We will take a return journey to Khullara campsite on the same road. After reaching Khullara campsite, we will take hot lunch. Now, you have the rest of the day to spend at Khullara campsite with tea, snacks, and dinner. After dinner, we will spend the night at our campsite. 

Trekking after snowfall

Day 05: Trek from Khullara camp to Tugashi village Trek- 10 km, 5/6 Hours. (Drive to Joshimath hotel. Dinner & overnight stay) 

  • Trekking distance: 10 km
  • Time taken: 5 to 6 km 
  • Altitude: 9832 feet 
  • Water resources: You will get mini streams to fill your bottles 
  • Trekking difficulty:  Easy 

In the morning, we will take a return trip to Tugashi village from the Khullara campsite. After breakfast, we will start trekking on the same route that we took before. It is the last chance to take photos of the traditional village of Tugashi. 

After reaching Tugashi village, we will have a packed lunch. After lunch, we will start driving to reach Joshimath. We will be staying in a hotel at Joshimath. You will be served tea and dinner after reaching the hotel. The night stay will be in the hotel of Joshimath. 

Kuari pass trek in winter

Day 06: Drive from Joshimath to Rishikesh via Srinagar, Devprayag by taxi 300 km, 10-12 Hours

  • Trekking distance: 300 km 
  • Time taken: 10 to 12 hours 
  • Altitude: 6152 feet 
  • Water resources: you will get a stream to fill your water bottles
  • Trekking difficulty: easy 

It is the last and final day of our Kuari pass trek. After breakfast, we will start our trip from Joshimath to Rishikesh. The journey is long but the memories of trekking will not let you get bored. 

We will take a taxi from Joshimath to Rishikesh. It is a long route but we will see the breathtaking beauty of Srinagar and Devprayag on our way. Capture each moment of today as you will not get this chance in your life. 

We will reach Joshimath by evening. From Joshimath, we will depart and take routes to our homes.

  • Charges of hospitalization, rescue fees and sudden halt due to natural calamity, or any charges beyond our limit
  • If some trekkers return in between the trek, they have to pay for meals, hotel stay, and travel
  • Refund of the booking amount
