It is a short trek that you can complete within a low budget. Situated deep in Spiti Valley, this trekking place is blessed with a serene atmosphere.  

Untouched by modern civilization, this peak trek will give you a relaxed feeling in your mind. It offers some of the most ravishing views of beautiful villages and green landscapes. One will get a thrilling experience on this trekking trail. You can enjoy the sight of mesmerizing mountain peaks such as Parang La, Kinnaur side peaks, and Ladakh. 

The backdrops of Tashi Gang village and Kibber villages motivate every trekker to enjoy this trekking route. Located at a great height of 19,618 feet, Kanamo Peak will give enthralling views of different mountain peaks and boulders. 

Snow on the trekking route makes it an exciting trail for many trekkers. You will find less vegetation on this trekking route. It is full of greenery and snow that will give passion to enjoy trekking. This trek is easier than other treks of Manali. 

Best Time To Do Kanamo Peak Trek? 

The best time to visit Kanamo Peak Trek is between May and September. If you love trekking in a snowy region, visit this trek during July. In July, the daytime temperature is between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius. The temperature at night can go down up to -4 degree Celsius.

Detail Itinerary

Batal camp site

Day 01: Drive from Manali to Batal (2050 meters to 3700 meters)

  • Trekking distance: 95 km
  • Time taken: 2 to 3 hours 
  • Trail type: travel by road. 
  • Water resources: There are no water streams or resources on this route. Take enough water.
  • Difficulty: easy. 

On day 1, we will start our journey by car from Manali in the morning. From Manali, we have to reach Batal which takes around 3 hours by car. We will come across Rohtang passes and Kunzum passes on this route. This road is full of traffic jams. So, it is better to start the journey in the morning. 

After crossing Rohtang Pass, we will take a route to Batal via the Manali Leh highway. You will enter the beautiful world of Spiti Valley by coming to Batal. The silence of a huge valley with a pleasant atmosphere will give an unforgettable experience to every trekker. We will spend the full day at Batal in our tents and discuss further plans for the trekking trail.

Day 02: Batal to Kibber via Chandertal (3700 meters to 4300 meters)

  • Time taken: 1 to 2 hours 
  • Drive distance: 71 km 
  • Trek distance: 1 km chandertal
  • Trail type: normal Himalayan trail to reach chandertal
  • Water resources: You will get many water resources on this route. 
  • Trekking difficulty: easy

Today, it is again a short trip starting from Batal. We will start driving from Batal in the morning. A short drive will take us to Batal. On the way, we will view Chandertal Lake on our route to Kibber. 

After reaching Kibber, we will visit the key monastery of the village. Interacting with monks and reading manuscripts is one of the best things you can try in this monastery. Then you must take a short walk in Kibber to get accustomed to the region. We will spend the night in our tents with the backdrop of a peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy a good sleep at night with the cool breeze of the place.

Day 03: Acclimatization day Kibber Village

Today, we have to rest for the full day. Kibber village is located at an altitude of 14000 ft. At this altitude, it is necessary to take rest for some hours.  Going for an acclimatization walk is very important to get used to local weather. 

We will spend the full day at Kibber village with the group members. Take some amazing pictures with your camera to store golden memories of Kibber village. It has wonderful surroundings filled with greenery and beautiful landscapes.

Day 04: Kibber to Kanamo peak Base Camp (4300 meters to 4800 meters)

  • Time taken: 6 to 7 hours 
  • Trekking distance: 8 km 
  • Trail type: Followed by Kibber village
  • Water resources: You will get 2 lakes on this route. So, it is easy to fill your bottles.
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderate 

After breakfast, we will start our trekking journey from Kibber village. Today, our route is full of grasslands, rocky terrains, and valleys. In the first half of the trek, we will get an ascent. After an ascent, we will get a flat road. Now, there are some real challenges on this road that you have to face. 

After 3 hours of walking on ascents, we will get a descent. We have to walk on a descent for around 7 hours. The sight of small villages and alpine lakes passing by the route will keep on motivating us for a good journey. 

On this route, we will also see numerous green fields relaxing our tired eyes. Dancing flowers with beautiful colors will wave at us with broad smiles. Brahma Kamal is one of the most wonderful lotus species that you will see in the Kanamo region. Apart from that, the region also offers a combination of cultural and historic sites. 

Our accommodation for the night will be in our tents. We will take rest and remove the tiredness from our bodies.

Trek to kanamo peak summit

Day 05: Kanamo peak base Camp to Summit Kanamo Peak and Back to base Camp (15,748 ft. to 19,618 ft to 15, l748 ft.)

  • Time taken: 12 to 13 hours
  • Trekking distance: 14 km up and down
  • Trail: Followed by Kanamo peak 
  • Water resources: It is better to carry water as you may not find water resources.
  • Trekking difficulty: Difficult

Now, we will start the real journey on day 5. Today, we have to start our journey a little early at 3 am. We will start trekking from Kanamo Peak base camp. Reaching Kanamo peak is one of the biggest challenges that we will have to face today. 

Trekking in the early hours of the morning will make us feel rejuvenated. Terrains of Kanamo Trek with the cool and harsh breeze of the morning will increase your stamina for trekking. The open surroundings of the region make the environment cool. 

Today, we have to walk on a long ascent. We have to climb carefully on plain terrains. Steep ascend makes the path all the more difficult for beginners. Some ascents will also have snow on which you have to walk very carefully. Although the ascent is covered with snow, it still makes hiking more entertaining. 

We have to climb continuously to reach Kanamo Peak. From this point, it feels so good to view Greater Himalayas. Huge glaciers will surround you from all sides. Breathtaking scenes of the Kinnaur and Spiti valleys will make trekking more exciting and beautiful. We will spend some time at this point and start our journey back to base camp. After 5 hours of walking on a descent, we will arrive at our base camp. Accommodation for that night will be in our small tents.

Base camp to kibber trek

Day 06: Kanamo base camp to Kibber to Kaza (15,748 ft. to 14,108 ft.)

  • Time taken: 6 to 7 hours. 
  • Trekking distance: 8 km of trekking and 19 km drive by road. 
  • Trail: Followed by Kibber village. 
  • Water resources: You will easily get water resources on your route. 
  • Trekking difficulty: easy to moderate. 

Today, we have to start our journey from Kanamo Base Camp. We will trek to Kibber village by walking on the same route that we took before. After breakfast, we will return to Kibber village. From Kibber village, we start driving to reach Kaza. 

On this road, we will view scenic spots and beautiful landscapes. The alluring beauty of this route deserves a click. We will spend the night at Kaza in tents.

Kunjum top

Day 07: Kaza to Manali

  • Time taken: 8 hours
  • Trekking distance: 200 km
  • Road type: good and off road. 
  • Water resources: Carry enough water as it is a long route. 
  • Difficulty: Easy. 

As we do on normal days, we will start journey in the morning. We will drive from Kaza to Manali. As it is a long route, we have to start early in the morning. We will reach Manali by evening. You can spend some days in Manali to enjoy its environment.

Do you charge for offloading backpacks? 

Yes, we have certain charges for offloading backpacks such as:

  • INR 4500/- before 10 days of trekking date
  • INR 5500/- after reaching Manali

Maximum weight of your luggage must be 11 kg. No suitcases or trolley bags are allowed on the trek.
