The real adventure of Ghepan Lake Trek can be filled between the period of july to September last, This time  is perfect to see the pristine beauty of Ghepan Lake and its surroundings. You will witness colorful flora in these months.

Short Itinerary

Day 01: Drive from Manali (2050m) to Ratill Village near Sissu (3130m) and trek to Base Camp (3515m):

Day 02: Trek from Base Camp (3515m) to Ghepan Lake (4310m) and return to Base Camp (3515m):

Day 03: Trek from Base Camp (3900m) to Ratill Village (3230m) and drive to Manali :

Detail Itinerary

Trek from ratill to base camp

Day 01: Drive from Manali (2050m) to Ratill Village near Sissu (3130m) and trek to Base Camp (3515m)

  • Altitude gain: 2050 meters to 3615 meters. 
  • Drive distance: 48 km
  • Drive duration: 2 hours
  • Trek distance: 8 kilometres trek
  • Trek duration: 7 to 8 hours 
  • Trail: followed by Ghepan Ghat . 
  • Water resources: There are 3 streams on this trail.

Part 1. On the first day all trekkers will meet at Rambag at 9:00am, Rambag is just upside of Mall road. After meeting introctor will bfief you about journey of Ghepan lake, after briefing we willove to our taxi. we will experience a surreal yet beautiful journey. We have to start driving right from Manali to Ratill. We have to drive around 48 km today on mountain roads to reach Ratill Village. After the beginning of the Atal Tunnel, it has become simpler than before to drive on this road. 

On the way, we will meet the alluring River Beas and then take Leh-Manali Highway. Driving on this highway will take us to the newly developed Atal Tunnel. This tunnel is recently inaugurated and has a length of around 9 km. It is situated at a height of 3,048m. After exiting this tunnel, we will come across River Chandra. 

Now, you have to take utmost care while driving on mountainous roads. The road is full of dangerous twists and turns with some smooth patches. Besides, we will also see more open valleys and huge landscapes on this road. Dense forests will accompany you on trails. You will also see various types of vegetation on farming lands. 

As it is the first day, we don’t have a lot of things to do. All of us will reach Ratill by noon. After lunch, we will start our journey again to reach Base Camp. 

Part 2. Trek from Ratill to Base Camp

Now, we have to take a difficult route. So, it is better to get prepared for a tiring day. We will begin trekking after lunch. A few river crossings will accompany us along with some meadows. After crossing rocky terrain, we will witness open valleys with colorful wildflowers. You will see a picturesque scene of colors spread over a massive land. 

After seeing the colorful wildflowers, we have to climb certain loose rocks with care. Now, we will see a flock of sheep grazing on the green land. Royal colors of meadows will make you feel happy and fresh. We will reach Ratill naala within some time. 

We have to climb on loose rocks. This path is a bit dangerous with a slippery phase. Now, we have to cross a river section. After crossing this section, we will stumble upon an icy glacier. This glacier phase is one of the most challenging routes of trekking. You have to walk on this narrow phase for about half an hour with patience and care. 

We will come across loose trails, rivers, and meadows on this route. After crossing a grassy patch of land, we will reach Camp 1. This camp is located in the center of meadows surrounded by colorful flora. We will also witness pink and lovely strawberries on this route. After reaching our campsite, we will build our tents and take good sleep at night. 

We will all get adjusted to the mountainous climate today. A long walk in the evening will help you to know the surroundings. Our night will be at Base Camp. A beautiful and silent night at Base Camp will make you feel like you are in another world. Looking at moving clouds in the mountains is just an unforgettable sight.

Ghepan ghat meadow in middle of trek

Day 02: Trek from Base Camp (3515m) to Ghepan Lake (4310m) and return to Base Camp (3515m)

  • Altitude gain: 3515 meters to 4310 meters. 
  • Trekking distance: 9 to 10 kilometres fro. 
  • Time taken: 9 to 10 hours 
  • Trail : Followed by Ghepan Ghat 
  • Water resources: There are les ls water resources on the route 
  • Trekking difficulty: Moderate to easy 

We will start the trek just like in previous days. We will not get rush in the morning and it is the best time to start our trek. For an hour, we have to walk continuously on loose rocks. You will have to trek on steep slopes unless you reach the top of the mountain. Now, we have to move downwards to Camp 1 to collect water. Constant steep ascent will make our trail more exciting at every stage. 

Foggy weather with cloudy mountainous peaks creates a beautiful sight in the morning. We will walk around 4 km to reach the lake. 

The route to the lake is simply awesome surrounded by big boulders and colorful meadows. Hanging glaciers are waiting to meet us on the route. Blue Glacial Lake has a charismatic appearance that will leave you speechless. Light air moving in every direction makes this place more fascinating. 

We will spend quality time at Blue glacial Lake before leaving the marvelous place. You can capture some of your best moments around this lake with your buddies. We will return to the campsite by night.

Ghepan ghat valley trek

Day 03: Trek from Base Camp (3900m) to Ratill Village (3230m) and drive to Manali 

  • Altitude loss: 3515 meters to 2050 meters.
  • Trekking distance: 8 kilometres 
  • Time taken: 6 to 7 hours 
  • Trail: as same as day 1
  • Drive distance: 48 kilometres
  • Drive duration: 2 hours
  • Water resources: There are several water resources on the route 
  • Trekking difficulty: easy   

Part 1. Finally, it is the day to depart from the beautiful Blue Glacial Lake. We start the trek in the morning to return to Ratill. It is same journey we followed on day one, on narrow trails with slippery sections and steep ascents. 

On our way to Ratill village, we will be lucky to watch boulders covered with beautiful flowers, meadows, glaciers, and milky white streams. Ghepan Ghat trek is not only an exciting trail but also contains a colorful patch of flowers. In a trek route of around 6 km, we will witness the changing shades of nature from green to brown with several palettes. 

Part 2. Our team will reach the trailhead at Ratill by 2 pm. Then we will drive to Manali and reach it in 2 hours. You can enjoy a holiday at Manali for a few more days to plunge into its heavenly beauty.

Yes, Ghepan Ghat Trek is a moderate-level trail. Even beginners can do this trek. But it requires endurance and strength to finish this trek. You must do regular exercises such as running and jogging for 3 to 4 months before going on this trek. This place also has thin air and you must have physical stamina and mental balance to finish this trek.
